Parks and Recreation Volunteer Disqualifier Information
The Town appreciates your willingness to volunteer for the Town of Castle Rock’s Parks and Recreation Department. As part of your application, you will be required to undergo a background check. Before submitting your application, please review disqualifying information. This information is for informational purposes only and is subject to change.
Disqualifying convictions
No individual shall be permitted to volunteer for the Town if the results of the background check show that the applicant has ever been convicted of, pled nolo contendere to, or has received a deferred sentence or deferred prosecution, or has a charge pending against them in which it is alleged that they have committed a crime that falls under of the following categories. Please note that the list of crimes under each category are not exhaustive.
Child abuse offenses: All child-abuse offenses, irrespective of the time elapsed, as specified in C.R.S. § 18-6-401; or any comparable offense committed in any other state.
Sex offenses: All offenses involving unlawful sexual behavior, irrespective of the time elapsed, as specified in C.R.S. § 16-22-102(9); or any comparable offense committed in any other state.
Felony violence against others: All violent felony offenses, regardless of time elapsed (e.g., murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated burglary, etc.).
If the results of the background check show that the applicant has been
convicted of, pled nolo contendere to, or has received a deferred sentence or
deferred prosecution, or has a charge pending against them in which it is
alleged that they have committed a crime that falls under ones of the following
categories, the applicant shall be disqualified from volunteering for the Town
until the appropriate time has elapsed since the date of conviction. Please note
that the list of crimes under each category are not exhaustive.
All felony offenses: All felony offenses – other than crimes against the
person or sexual crimes – within the past 10 years (e.g., drug offenses, theft,
embezzlement, fraud, etc.).
Misdemeanor violence: All misdemeanor violence offenses within the past
seven years (e.g., domestic violence, hit & run, etc.).
Multiple misdemeanor drug/alcohol offenses: Multiple misdemeanor drug
and alcohol offenses within the past seven years (e.g., Driving Under the
Influence (DUI), simple drug possession, disorderly conduct, public
intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia, etc.).
Other offenses: Any other offenses within the past five years that could
pose a potential danger to participants.
Other disqualifiers
In addition to the foregoing crimes, an applicant may also be disqualified if
the person has:
· Had parental rights terminated;
· History with another organization with complaints of sexual abuse of minors;
· Resigned, been terminated or been asked to resign from a position – whether paid or unpaid – due to a complaint of sexual abuse of minors;
· Has a history of other behaviors that indicate a possibility of a danger to children, elderly or disabled, or other vulnerable persons as specified in C.R.S. § 27-90-111, as amended; and
· Has a history of other behaviors
that indicate a possibility of a danger to employees or citizens.
