Improving bluebird populations

The Colorado Bluebird Project operates under the guidance of Denver Audubon and is offered through POST Partners in Castle Rock. This volunteer-run project aims to improve the vitality of bluebird populations throughout Colorado and to inform and educate the public about bluebirds. Information about monitoring a nestbox

Volunteers of all ages are recruited in February to assist with monitoring the nest boxes from April through August. Volunteers will visit the boxes on a rotating basis once every two or three weeks to collect important nesting data. Additionally, volunteers help with the maintenance and repair of older nest boxes.

Volunteers are required to attend both the open house and monitor training to learn project background, species identification, monitoring tips and instructions for entering monitoring data to NestWatch, the online nationwide nest-monitoring program and database maintained by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Join us for an informational meeting to learn about the Colorado Bluebird Project and how you can get involved!

Required: All new volunteers must attend.
Encouraged: Returning volunteers are welcome and appreciated.

Each February, we recruit volunteers of all ages to help monitor nest boxes from April through August. Volunteers also assist with maintenance and repair of older boxes throughout the season.

	Q: Is there a Colorado Bluebird Project Open House? If so, when? A: There will be an Informational Presentation on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 7-8 p.m. at the Millhouse at Philip S. Miller Park, 1381 W. Plum Creek Parkway
	Q: Is there training available on how to monitor and how to use nest watch? A: There will be two monitoring training offerings to choose from: either on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 4-5:30 p.m. or Thursday, Feb. 26, 6:30-8 p.m. at the Millhouse at Philip S. Miller Park, 1381 W. Plum Creek Parkway. New volunteers are required to attend one of these offerings.
	Q: Are returning volunteers required to attend training? A: Returning volunteers are not required to attend training, however we feel a refresher is always good if you can fit it into your schedule. We will be using Nest Watch again this year for all data entry. Information on mandatory data entry using NestWatch will be covered during the Monitor Training. Please attend for a refresher!
	Q: By responding to this interest form, does this guarantee that I will become a Bluebird Nest-box Monitor? A: Registration fills up fast, so please respond as soon as possible. Volunteer monitor positions are not guaranteed once you complete this form. This form is an interest form and to match volunteers with preferred sites.
	Q: When will I be notified if I am Bluebird volunteer and what my site assignment is? A: Notification of your site assignment will be completed in mid-March. Please submit at least three site choices.
