Who We Are
Make a Positive Impact in Castle Rock - Volunteer as a Youth Sports Coach!
Our Athletics program is seeking dedicated volunteers to coach youth sports. Coaching requires a commitment of at least two hours per week, depending on your availability and interest. Your time and effort help create meaningful experiences for young athletes in our community.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I become a volunteer coach?
If you are interested in coaching in one of our Youth Athletics league programs, please refer to the contact list below and email the appropriate staff member. They will guide you through the necessary steps to become an eligible volunteer before the season begins.
The onboarding process includes:
Completing a volunteer waiver
Agreeing to the Coaches Code of Conduct
Completing required concussion education training and abuse prevention training
Successfully passing a background check
Why is concussion training required?
As of January 1, 2012, Colorado’s Jake Snakenberg Youth Sports Concussion Act (SB11-040) mandates that all coaches of organized youth sports complete annual concussion recognition training. Additionally, if a coach suspects a youth athlete has sustained a concussion, they must immediately remove the athlete from play. The athlete may not return to practice or competition until they have been evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider and receive written clearance. The bill also grants limited immunity to volunteer coaches, individuals assisting with youth athletic activities, and members of governing boards for school districts, private clubs, or recreation facilities.
Why are background checks and abuse prevention training required?
Under the Colorado Safer Youth Sports Act (SB24-113), all youth sports organization employees and volunteers who work directly with youth participants are required to complete a criminal history record check and abuse prevention training. Please review our background check disqualifying criteria, or feel free to contact the athletics office with any questions or concerns.
We understand this is a big commitment and greatly appreciate the dedication of our coaches!
What should I know about volunteer coaching?
After completing the registration process, volunteer coaches will attend a preseason meeting. These meetings cover important topics such as program philosophy, expectations, team rostering, scheduling logistics, and sport-specific practice plans and drills.
To show our appreciation for your time and dedication, we offer a full registration refund for each sport you coach (one per season). The refund will be processed at the end of the season, provided the Coaches Code of Conduct has been upheld.
What equipment is provided to coaches and participants?
All youth athletes receive sport-specific shirts, unless otherwise noted. Baseball and softball participants also receive ball caps. While necessary team equipment is provided, players must supply their own sport-specific footwear.
Equipment by Sport:
Baseball & Softball: Coaches receive balls, throw-down bases, helmets, and catcher’s gear. Players must provide their own gloves.
Basketball: Basketballs are available at all game and practice locations. Players need appropriate footwear.
Flag Football: Coaches receive footballs, a kicking tee, and flags for each player.
Inline Hockey: Coaches are provided with goalie equipment and roller hockey pucks. Players must bring their own hockey stick and desired pads.
