On Saturday, June 6, community members gathered at Gateway Mesa Open Space to celebrate American Hiking Society's National Trails Day®️ with a series of guided hikes showcasing some of Castle Rock's most beautiful trails.

The event was well attended, with participants enjoying a perfect early summer morning exploring the unique landscapes, wildlife, plants, and history of this remarkable open space. Hikers had the opportunity to choose from five guided hikes along either the easy-rated Chuck's Loop Trail or the more challenging Legacy Trail, which winds through a narrow slot canyon and features stunning geological formations.

One of the highlights of the day was the enthusiastic geology-themed hike led by Brendan Bialy along Legacy Trail. Participants learned about the fascinating geological history of Gateway Mesa, gaining a deeper appreciation for the natural forces that shaped the landscape they were exploring. Brendan's passion and expertise brought the rocks, formations, and stories of the area to life, creating an engaging and memorable experience for hikers of all ages.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year's National Trails Day celebration, and to the staff, volunteers, and hike leaders who helped make the event a success. We look forward to seeing you on the trails again soon.
